Three Non-Violent Popular Computer Games You Can Gift
Posted on | September 20, 2009 | Comments Off
My kids love playing computer games. My husband and I, like many other parents, do not allow them to play violent games or anything which we do not consider to be family-friendly. Fortunately, with both of us being computer gaming fans, it’s easy for us to check the games ourselves first.
I get approached by many other parents, who consider us to be some sort of “computer wiz” geeks, telling me how they won’t buy computer games for their children, because they can’t be sure the games are appropriate for them. Well, for all of us concerned parents, I checked the latest bestsellers list of PC games and picked out three games that are non-violent and still pose a fun challenge for older kids too. In fact, these will probably entertain grown-ups too and may not be suitable for very young children (simply because they may find them too challenging).
Sid Meiers Civilization IV: The Complete Edition
While I haven’t played this version, I am well familiar with previous Civilization games and can recommend them whole-heartedly. These games take patience and skill, but can be highly addictive. While they do depict wars, the focus is on historical events and there no gory graphics. This game is very educational, as kids meet historic figures and places, building their own version of a civilization. Click to view product details, reviews or to buy from Amazon
SimCity is another top-notch simulation game, this one allowing your kid (ok, ok, you…) to build up a city from an empty location near the river or sea, into an intricate metropolis filled with life. Control residents, business and politics and see how your decisions affect the virtual people living in your city. No violence (or none that your police stations can’t handle), and an addictive challenging game. Click for the product page on Amazon here.
Zoo Tycoon 2: Ultimate Collection
Ever dreamed of running your own zoo? Here’s your chance, with another wonderful non-violent simulation game. Let your kids learn management skills while creating their own fantasy zoo. As always, the only problem with these kind of games is addiction – and I am talking about parents too here! Click here for the product page and to order.
Each one of these three is a fun game that teaches kids skills such as planning and management skills. They’re highly educational and will provide kids with hours of entertainment – they’ll never notice they’re learning! Safe and fun games for the PC!
